Book Review: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Book Review: Fahrenheit
451 by Ray Bradbury
In this futuristic dystopia, the main
character, Guy Montag is a fireman whose job it is to start fires instead of extinguishing them. The fires are set to houses containing any
books because in this society, all literature is prohibited. People are pushed into a superfluous existence;
driving at 100 mph, blasting “the parlor” (artificial family to relate with), kerosene
perfume, chemical laden hair, etc…
Montag’s epiphany occurs when he burnt an old lady alive in her house
containing books and his boss, Warren Beatty explains the history behind his
job. Guy realizes that there must be
something about books which is very important for people to die for. Little by little, Montag collects books and
rebels against mass society; kindling a fire of rage against him.
