Notes from the Gary Null Show
I sometimes listen to a program called "The Gary Null Show" on the Progressive Radio Network. The show deals with health, environmental issues, economics and culture; and is attracting a growing number of listeners from all over the world. Here's some notes I took from last night's show from 8-9. Where possible, I list the sources of info, but some of it was his own knowledge.
*Multiple vitamins don't increase, but decrease risk of mortality- American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
*Breast milk has over 700 species of good bacteria- American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
*15 minutes of daily exercise can add up to 3 years onto life and cut risk for all causes of death by 14%- Peer reviewed journal, The Lancet
*It's wise for couples to detoxify before becoming pregnant.
*Coffee negatively affects the body's pH
*Top reasons why diets fail- Layola Center for Bariatric Care:
1. Underestimation of caloric intake/serving sizes
2. Overestimation of activity/ calories burned. Vigorous exercise is best.
*Major vaccines fail to prevent diseases as intended
*Lower 9th Ward of Louisiana should be evacuated and homes damaged by Sandy are at risk for recurring future events. Shoreline areas will be hard to live in with flooding risks. Jakarta, Indonesia (population > 10 million) is at major risk for flooding.
*FDA is allowing unlabeled GMO salmon into the marketplace despite violating scientific ethics policies due to lack of scientific integrity in the White House.- John Entine, Forbes
*Global warming shown to increase the risk of tree-damaging beetles. This leaves trees dry and at high risk for forest fires.- Madison University of Wisconsin.
*"If a [NYC] teacher who is deemed a dud agrees to quit or retire before a termination trial, the Department of Education will wipe out all of her “unsatisfactory” or U ratings and — voilà — change them to S for “satisfactory,” thus helping her land a job elsewhere."- NY Post "Grade Charade"
*Health insurance companies are raising rates by double digits-NY Times
*An ideal healthcare system should have universal care for those needing it and the option for private insurance as well. Malpractice suits should be eliminated, and, if medical mishaps can be traced to certain individuals, they should take pay cuts. People with a real sense of medical ethics must be allowed to testify before Congress, and not just embedded agencies.
