The Present of the Past (International Policy Poem)

Throw a blanket of amnesia over horrors that were done
Suddenly it seems we all are soaking up the sun
Desensitized to violence, it's as if we now expect
To cooperate with chaos or be strangled round the neck
It's not politically correct, to keep these facts in check
To do so is a threat to politics that object
Put on a suit and tie, and play the do or die
But behind it is a mind that's long since been crucified
Technology's allowed for wars on a larger scale
But our policies are flawed, and still we say prevail
Too often we mistake negotiations for weakness
So it's ok to sanction, but not to show meekness
The money behind violence still cannot cover up
The lies that are behind it, as we race with pace abrupt
Ghandi knew it, Malcom knew it, that our leaders long since blew it
Chomsky knows it, Hedges knows it, we're violent and our actions show it
I guess it's just the past, that will forever last
Despite efforts made to destroy it in a blast
This is where we must turn
To know and truly yearn
For the truths of life, not useless strife that causes us to burn
