How to Make Real Economic Change

With constant talk about the Trump tax plan and benefits going almost exclusively to the top of the top, one may wonder how it is that we are stranded in the wilderness of economic inequality without a map? Here are just a few basic starter suggestions and ideas for a sound financial path. 1. Support "Democracy at Work". This phrase, commonly used by economist Richard Wolff, refers to enterprises where the employees have a say in how their companies are run and may even own part or all of the company themselves. Also known as, worker cooperatives, these businesses are often highly-efficient and far more sustainable than mass-produced mega-chains. More info @ www.democracyatwork.info. Update From Last Post

Well, as of right now I am in an accredited dietetic internship through Daemen college. I got 4 RDs who've agreed to be my preceptors for various rotations. I am still putting in the grunt work of securing my remaining rotations, but am very proud of myself for getting this far. After successful completion of this internship, I will be eligible to take the RD exam. After passing the exam, I will officially become an RD. (Whew!) My road has been long, winding and ridden with obstacles. I have had numerous setbacks and disappointments. Yet, as I reflect on my journey, it is precisely because of its difficulty that I appreciate my accomplishments so much. Regardless of where I end up, it's a long way and a lot better than from where I came. Many gracious opportunities have come up recently, and I refuse to let them go unnoticed. I chose this field because of how satisfied I feel when helping others do positive things with their life. Through research, volunteering, and conver

I'm a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR)...Now what?

Well folks, I did it. I passed my DTR exam. After much studying and applying what I've learned, I have officially earned and am currently maintaining my DTR credentials. While this sounds impressive, it is however, a mere beginning. I'll explain. First, to put this in a better context, I graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh's Nutrition program (Bachelors of Science) in May. This qualified me to apply for dietetic internships, which are needed to sit for the RD exam. During my last semester at Plattsburgh, I only applied to one internship program, which was affiliated with NYU and a VA hospital in the Bronx. I was not matched for the internship, although NYU accepted me into their Masters program in Nutrition. I chose to turn it down because I'm looking to be an RD and therefore need the internship. Besides, I just got my Bachelors and NYU tuition would be a huge cost. I therefore prepared to take the DTR exam. DTRs work under/with RDs and being a DTR can look good for inte

Paraguay Water Issues: Analyses and Proposals

Use without permission/credit is prohibited. -Joseph Albrecht               As a developing nation, Paraguay has been faced with the common problems related to industrialization. Among the most important of these problems is the issue of clean water availability. Subject to droughts, pollution and mismanagement; Paraguay’s water supply faces serious challenges that must be adequately addressed. By engaging in resource management, local and international cooperation, along with technological improvements, Paraguay can have viable water sources for years to come.     Indigenous people from the vast Paraguayan Chaco region, face water issues on a regular basis. With a lack of infrastructure for adequate water supply, they are forced to drink from a reservoir that is “…not fit to drink, but we drink it anyway. We have no other option; it’s not clean water, but it is water,” according to Neira Esquivel, an ind

Make it Last

Driving the long highway, see the glow the streetlights cast Never thought of it as my way, only wanted it to last A destination set in mind, but nothing set in stone Hopefully some company but prepared to go alone Travel bags all filled up, enough to last 2 weeks Smile's wide and chin's up, but inside no words to speak After many hours it finally appears A beloved destination that seemed to hide for years It's everything expected and in fact even more Like a well thought out plan, causing one to rest assured The upsets and the letdowns don't seem to matter now I've achieved my goal and don't care why or how A long way from the start, the future to the past I have the mind and heart and now the will to make it last
