Make it Last

Driving the long highway, see the glow the streetlights cast
Never thought of it as my way, only wanted it to last
A destination set in mind, but nothing set in stone
Hopefully some company but prepared to go alone
Travel bags all filled up, enough to last 2 weeks
Smile's wide and chin's up, but inside no words to speak
After many hours it finally appears
A beloved destination that seemed to hide for years
It's everything expected and in fact even more
Like a well thought out plan, causing one to rest assured
The upsets and the letdowns don't seem to matter now
I've achieved my goal and don't care why or how
A long way from the start, the future to the past
I have the mind and heart and now the will to make it last
