Coffee Over Chaos

I'm not going to go into detail over the many tragedies Yemen has been experiencing for years now. You can do your own research. Suffice it to say that life for the majority in Yemen is tragic. While many may seem isolated from their sufferings; I feel that we are all indeed connected to this on some level. I certainly don't have all the answers, but I pray and do what I can.

Over the holiday season, I saw a CBS Sunday Morning news show about Yemen coffee. My girlfriend's dad and I watched in interest. Neither one of us realized Yemen grew coffee; let alone was likely the origin of coffee production and processing. It showed the farmers and the production process, along with the mindsets behind them. I was inspired by the resilience of these people amidst unimaginable problems.

I've decided to revisit this now and recently bought a bag from Al Mokha, named after the historic Yemeni port from which the coffee was shipped to Europe. Also the derivative of "Mocha". My affections and prayers are with the people of Yemen; especially the most vulnerable. I firmly believe through awareness and persistent efforts for good, we can see the better days for which we strive.

“Among the numerous luxuries of the table…coffee may be considered as one of the most valuable. It excites cheerfulness without intoxication; and the pleasing flow of spirits which it occasions…is never followed by sadness, languor or debility.”

-Benjamin Franklin

“I stop drinking coffee, I stop doing the standing and the walking, and the words-putting-into-sentence doing.”

-Lorelai Gilmore, "Gilmore Girls"
