By the Wayside Poem


By the Wayside
Never will I forget the day
When everything washed away.
It took me by complete surprise.
I could not believe my eyes.
The sea was calm, the wind mild.
My mind relaxed like a child.
Then suddenly came a great shift.
I felt the currents roar and drift.
The wind fell down with utter force.
My heart grew scared and felt remorse.
All I knew had come and gone.
I wondered what path I was on.
Laying there on the cold wet sand,
I dreamt of a happier land.
A land where I once held my pride;
That’s now been washed by the wayside.
