Book Review: Empire of Illusion by Chris Hedges
Book Review: Empire of
Illusion by Chris Hedges
In our modern world, a world of
seemingly endless entertainment and distraction, it’s all too easy to become
aloof with crucial aspects of society.
This is the opinion of Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and New York
Times bestselling author, Chris Hedges.
Hedges dives into W.W.E. wrestling, the pornography industry, Hollywood and
education to reveal disturbing truths about why America has lost its edge.
After reading the book, I was shocked
and disgusted about Hedges’ searing criticisms.
I had to put the book down while reading about the pornography industry
in chapter two: “The Illusion of Love” because I was so unsettled. At the same time, I knew there were important
truths in each of the chapters. Talking
with influential people across the spectrum, Hedges backs up his statements
with many relevant examples. It’s not a
feel-good book to be sure; however, it’s one I recommend to anyone concerned
about our current unsustainable path.
