Aiding the Enemy and the Persecution of Truth
If anything invites compelling reasons to drop the "Aiding the Enemy Charge" against PFC Bradley Manning, it is the testimony of Manning's defense attorny, David Coombs @ http://rt.com/usa/manning-judge-aiding-enemy-denied-266/. Here, Coombs pulls out multiple witnesses and past interactions Manning had to prove, in numerous ways, he had no intention of aiding the enemy and harming the United States with his released information. The fact that videos such as "Collateral Murder" don't cast the US military in a favorable light is irrelevant. Hiding legalized war crimes such as this only invites the continuation of similar tragedies down the road. Where any of the gunners in the helicopter that murdered unarmed civilians trying to help the injured even sought after, let alone prosecuted? Who's the bigger threat here? By exposing these atrocities for what they are, we call the public to step back and think about the disparities between pro-war rhetoric and reality. If the call for and end to such massacres is ignored, as the prosecution or persecution is trying to do, we may very well have more of these without knowing about it.
Bradley Manning's truth will live on as with Daniel Ellsberg, Edward Snowden and others. Here, wecan kill the truth-teller but the truth is immortal. Pat Tillman left his $3.6 million NFL contract to enlist in the United States Army. He was deeply troubled by 9/11, and he felt a strong moral obligation to join the fight against al-Qaeda and the Taliban. However, once in Iraq, he began to question the war, calling it "illegal as hell." He was killed by friendly fire two years after joining, but this was not the initial conclusion of his death, which claimed he was killed by the enemy. According to AP reporters: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/26/AR2007072602025.html, Tillman was shot three times in the forehead, "
The doctors _ whose names were blacked out _ said that the bullet holes were so close together that it appeared the Army Ranger was cut down by an M-16 fired from a mere 10 yards or so away." Pat's diary was reported to be either lost or burned, depending on various accounts.
Truth does not perish. Its very nature allows for its continuation among generations. Although, efforts can be made to hide this truth, it cannot be destroyed or become obsolete as in a relative Twilight Zone episode called "The Obsolete Man." The episode is of an Orwellian world an old librarian is deemed obsolete because the state has banned books. By refusing to let go of his values, he is killed, but not without sending a much needed message of truth to society. Likewise, whistle blowers across the spectrum will likely be attacked in various ways, but the truth within them lives on, and, more importantly, serves as evidence in the one, unbiased, final jury over eternity.
